Departures that Brought Us Here
Departures that Brought Us Here merges Apolo’s research in LGBTQ+ archives with the kinetic movement of a split-flap display board. Traditionally used in airports and train stations to signal movement and transition, Gomez has transformed the display board into a storytelling platform containing messages, memories, and resistance from the LGBTQ+ community. Shifting letters combine with archival ephemera, echoing the fluctuating, fleeting nature of queer histories, highlighting the precarity of queer existence. S

Tracing Queer ChicanX Histories
Tracing Queer ChicanX Histories is a multi-volume zine project documenting overlooked queer ChicanX cultural networks in Albuquerque and connecting them to other communities from the 1970s through today. Combining archival research, photography, interviews, and original design, each volume functions as both an artist publication and a portable community archive. The first volume was partially funded in 2024 by the Fulcrum Fund of 516 ARTS and produced as a limited risograph-printed zine at Risolana, a community-driven print shop in Albuquerque’s South Valley.

Pleasure Closet
A mixed-media installation that delves into the intricate cycle of Pleasure, Guilt, and Shame experienced within the queer community. Wo/Manhouse 2022 was a project created for the 50th Anniversary of Womanhouse. New Mexico artists from across the gender spectrum transformed sixteen rooms into works of art that explore the subject of the home. Nancy Youdelman, one of the original Womanhouse participants, facilitated the project with Judy Chicago and Donald Woodman overseeing Wo/Manhouse 2022 as advisors.

Phantoms of History
A mixed-media installation addressing the distressing phenomenon of marginalized voices being stifled within queer communities. This endeavor was born out of a deep-seated concern for the stories that have been muted and the individuals whose narratives have been obscured throughout history. Through a deliberate act of enlarging photographs of queer activists and subsequently erasing their bodies and surroundings, I endeavored to spotlight the urgency of amplifying these silenced voices and reclaiming their rightful place within the annals of history.

PrEPñata
An immersive installation comprising over a hundred vibrant piñatas, collectively mirroring the form of a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) pill. PrEP, a medication safeguarding individuals from potential exposure to disease-causing agents, takes a crucial role in HIV prevention. Notably, Truvada remains the recommended PrEP for averting HIV infections, yielding a remarkable 92-99% reduction in HIV risk when taken consistently.
